Damajagua Falls

If you're on vacation in Puerto Plata or the surrounding area, it's worth checking out Damajagua Falls – waterpark created by nature! This is one of the biggest attractions of the Dominican Republic's north coast.

Just location of the waterfalls is very attractive: in Northern Mountains, among tropical vegetation. To get to the upper reaches of the river, we walk about half an hour along an uphill path through the exotic forest. While the slope is not too steep, the walk requires at least a minimum physical fitness. Something like the lower parts of the Beskids in Poland 😉.

The sports that are practiced in the Damajagua Riverbed are. canyoning. It is a crossing on foot and by swimming along stream located in a limestone canyon In the mountains... We wade in shallow water, swim where the river gains depth, We slide down rock slides and. We jump off waterfalls (if we feel like it 😉)!

We are equipped with helmets and life jackets, so weaker swimmers can just drift on the water. The ability to swim is not so necessary. The important thing is to have no fear against water, because during descents or jumps, the head will certainly get wet. A few short reunions can't be ignored, while all jumps are optional and it is possible to bypass them.

Unfortunately, so far no path or other option has been created for convenient access to Damajagua Falls without entering the riverbed. In the future, this should be possible thanks to rope park under construction: in some time it will be possible to rappel Along the river, above the waterfalls! Currently zipline ends where the most beautiful part of the rock trough begins, that is, you can combine rope descents with canyoning in the river (option Damajagua Falls + Zipline).
